Specimen
in buildA canvas app for thinking. Three modes: quick sketch, start project, open existing. The artifact decides what it wants to be after you've already started, not before.
What it does
Most creative tools force a mode at the moment of opening. New file. New project. New document. The first action sets a heavy frame, and a lot of thinking dies right there because filing it feels like committing to it.
Specimen lets you start drawing before you've named anything. If the sketch turns into something you want to keep working on, you promote it. Filing happens then.
The three modes
- Quick Sketch. One canvas, no save dialog, no name, no folder. Just draw.
- Start Project. Promote a sketch when it's earned a name. Multiple canvases, organized.
- Open Existing. Return to anything you've previously promoted.
